Pallmann organized the international Wood Floor World Cup for the second time in September 2023. This time, the competition was held under the motto Magic Oil. For nine months, wood floor layers around the world had the opportunity to apply with either ongoing projects that were completed during the application period or projects that were no older than 24 months. The only condition was that at least one Magic Oil product from wood floor specialist Pallmann had to be used. In total, over 60 applications from 12 countries were received by the application deadline on April 30.
By submitting a project, the craftsmen automatically became part of their country team. To qualify for the final, a country team had to consist of at least three projects. In this way, 11 countries and their projects were among the finalists. All the wood floors from these 11 countries were then evaluated by an international jury of experts based on clearly defined criteria, such as craftsmanship, room geometry or sustainability, to determine the winning country. In the end, the decision was extremely close. Ultimately, Portugal was able to convince the expert jury the most with four above-average wood floor projects and therefore emerged as the winner of the Magic Oil Wood Floor World Cup.
One particular highlight from Portugal is the project by Fino Oficio, which is already well known in the industry. The impressive installation, which has already won the American WF Business Design Award 2024, among others, presented the team with various challenging tasks. In addition to the incorporation of an eucalyptus root, the sanding also required the highest level of craftsmanship, as different types of wood were used. These had different densities and sensitivities and were therefore particularly difficult to work with. Using a special firing method, the team also succeeded in creating a three-dimensional depth in the wood grain, which now gives the impression of an authentic “leopard print”. Finally, the wood surface was finished with Magic Oil Ergo to perfect the result.
The three other projects by the Portuguese team also impressed with their exceptional craftsmanship. While Vedacelos e Soalhos and Kimoblic renovated 60 and 50 square meters respectively in a residential building, Manuel Costa Unipessal devoted itself to 150 square meters of a hotel. All delivered outstanding results, particularly in terms of sustainability, standards and room geometry, but also impressively fulfilled the criteria of overall impression, individuality and detailed solutions.
The entire national team from Portugal can now look forward to a joint event. There they can exchange ideas with colleagues in the team, network and celebrate the victory in style. Of course, they will also all benefit from the advertising effect created by the presentation of the submitted projects via Pallmann's international communication channels.
