Husqvarna on the development of a new line of diamond tools
When you talk about floor preparation and finishing, sooner or later you end up with Husqvarna. Having acquired both HTC (2018) and Blastrac (2021), the Swedish manufacturer is literally "incontournable" thanks to a complete line-up in all floor sanders and preparations. That includes all applications for using diamond tools, which we talk about specifically here, focusing on Walk Behind and remote-controlled machines.

We speak to Kris De Rudder, sales manager Benelux Surfaces & floors, and Thomas Keizer, global product market manager of all diamond tools and floor treatments. The latter has just returned from one of the biggest events in the sector (World of Concrete in Las Vegas, 23-25 January), where a new line of diamond tools was launched. All information regarding these novelties and updates can be found on the Husqvarna website.

Assortments
"It seems best to outline the ranges first because this is so comprehensive," states Thomas Keizer. "The starting model is a mono machine with one head with a diameter of 280 mm, and we go up to planetary machines with three or even four heads up to a diameter of 950 mm. The number of machines in the range is very extensive, ranging from self-pushing to self-propelled remote-controlled machines. The latter category is a clearly growing market. The bottom line is that we have something for everyone in terms of application and price."
Naturally, we are particularly interested in the offering for the parquet installer. Here, Kris De Rudder outlines how it involves two areas. It starts with the preparation of the floor and then there is the finishing of the parquet itself.

"Important to know for the parquet engineer is that we have all the machines in house. So both for preparing the (concrete) floor and later sanding the parquet. If you work more as a residential parquet installer, the PG280 or PG450 are the machines of choice for removing glue and/or levelling, and/or roughening the floor. We also have even larger models up to 950 mm, as well as hand-held machines used for edges, corners or other hard-to-reach areas. We have the appropriate diamond tools for all these applications."

PCD (Poly Cristaline Diamond)
"For adhesive removal, we designed the perfect diamond tool, the Poly Cristaline Diamond," picks up Thomas Keizer. "The shape of this diamond tool acts as several claws that remove elastic materials efficiently. The combination of the PG450 with a hoover DE120 and this diamond tool PCD helps effortlessly remove adhesive residues in no time. Also for substrate preparation, Husqvarna has numerous metal-bonded diamond tools. An update of the existing diamond tools and launch of new diamond tools for tackling surfaces and floors is now in the starting blocks and ready for launch, which you have no doubt already seen on social media."

"For parquet installers, we are talking about smaller to medium-sized machines up to, say, 550 mm," Kris De Rudder specifies, going into a bit more detail about working on parquet itself. "For sanding wood, you have two options or steps. For even sanding parquet, we offer the special metal-bonded VARI-GRIND EZ SL30 wood and for sanding parquet, we have various sanding pads from grain 30 to 120. Afterwards, finishing and oiling is done with our Oiling pads. Here I would add that at Husqvarna we have our unique EZchange TM which allows you to easily attach all tools at the bottom of the machine."

Dust extraction as an action point
In conclusion, our interlocutors also point out the provision of the right dust extraction for each machine.
"As a total solution provider, you cannot forget dust extraction in the interior," Kris De Rudder concludes. "That dust extraction is not only important for the end user, but certainly also for the operator. I want to highlight that we also capture the dust in an ecological way by means of a cyclone movement with filters (pre-filter and Hepa). All Husqvarna vacuums are H-class certified, meeting the highest European standard. It simultaneously illustrates how we also always have the user's safety in mind in everything we do!"
