François-Xavier Panaget (director general Design Parquet)

Special Producers of solid wood or multilayer Hungarian point and herringbone

Floor Forum International N° 133, November 2023

"With our products and finishes, we can respond to all possible requests"
As a parquet manufacturer, Design Parquet, based in Torcé, France, has been earning its spurs for many years. Found on the Rennes-Paris axis, Design Parquet combines know-how in solid and semi-solid parquet with state-of-the-art production resources. This enables it to offer both standard and made-to-measure parquet with more than a million possible combinations. Its parquet floors are available in a wide range of substrates, sizes, species (oak, hardwood, exotics), installation methods, looks and finishes.

Design Parquet enjoys worldwide fame for its special motifs and is a name that rings a bell when it comes to chevron and herringbone. We hear briefly from director-general François-Xavier Panaget, who runs the company with father Yves, about how people approach these parquet shapes and how well they are doing. Under the current not so favourable conditions, we learn that Design Parquet also continues to do well in herringbone and chevron in a market that, according to our interlocutor, is even a little more than 'just stable'.

Flexibility and adaptability manufacturing
"Herringbone and chevron are important to our business and that is not surprising. Design Parquet is known for its flexibility and adaptability of production, and just these two motifs fit seamlessly with extreme customisability," he says. "We aim for quality, with an important diversity in products, which we can offer structured, in various colours and/or colours, other sizes,... and herringbone and chevron are great examples of this. We do not supply standard products, but aim for the details and the smallest wishes of the customers, where we can supply for any project, whether it is a house or a hotel or something else."

"We spent years building up our know-how, creating a stable market for ourselves. With these special products such as herringbone and chevron, we even notice a slight increase, which does not surprise us, as these are floors that are very déco, just what the market demands. Moreover, they are not just architects' products, they also fit the B2B demand very well, with the big advantage that they are purely custom-made. Our greatest asset here: the many men and women who work at Design Parquet. Each individual talent contributes to the company's success and supports its development every day. Each one contributes his or her expertise and know-how to ensure the satisfaction of our customers."

It's all about the finishes
When we inquire about possible innovations, Mr Panaget immediately responds that this is not really an issue here. This is about something completely different, including the creation of Navylam+, a patented parquet floor it designed specifically for bathrooms. With these laying patterns, the main focus is currently on finishes.
"Our finishes respond to everything and therefore we can cater to very special requests, whether it's Parisian flats, where chevron and also herringbone are very popular, or other places. What does stand out with today's finishes is that there has been a slightly greater demand for more 'grain', as well as aged. People want extra character in their parquet floors and that goes well with these classic finishes. Classic laying patterns where, by the way, the extra-large floorboards are doing very well these days."

Present during Domotex
On the Design Parquet website (www.designparquet.com), you can find a lot of practical information about the herringbone and chevron parquets, as well as the many possibilities for customised creation. Design Parquet will once again be present at Domotex Hannover, where it will show a number of new products that are currently under development.
