Special Air humidifiers for consumers: a necessity

Floor Forum International N° 133, November 2023

‘An air humidifier isn’t an expense, but an investment with an undeniable return.’
What is one of the biggest challenges for producers of air humidifiers? Hans van Beurden, director of Venta Benelux B.V., doesn’t have to think long about that: ‘Convincing end clients that an air humidifier contributes tangibly to a better quality of life and to the quality of materials in an interior.’ Indeed, an efficient humidifier not only regulates the humidity to a healthy level, but also reduces dust accumulation and increases the durability of wooden elements.

To be specific, if the humidity is too low, there is a greater risk of dehydration and cracks in the fibres and cells of the wood. Hans continues: ‘There are even parquet floor producers who only give a product guarantee if there is suitable air humidification’. He stresses that Venta air humidifiers are all highly durable. ‘In practice, our appliances tend to operate for 20 years rather than 10. Divide the average purchase price of €353.00 (not including VAT) per appliance by the number of months of use and you actually pay very little for the added value which a healthier, more pleasant, and qualitatively higher life offers.’

Venta Benelux B.V. is a subsidiary company of the German Venta-Luftwäscher GmbH, which has been a pioneer for over 40 years in the field of air humidification and freshening. ‘Venta was formed by a carpenter who actually discovered by accident how the movements of a wheel in a watermill created a pleasant indoor climate.’ This discovery led to the start of a series of products which have never been so relevant as in 2023. Amongst other things, Hans also refers to the extremely insulating building method which is pernicious for the humidity. ‘Low humidity has the effect, for instance, of assisting the spread of viruses and the drying of materials.’
The internationally active producer Venta believes that cold-water evaporation is the most advisable technique for moisturising a room. ‘Our ancestors used this principle when they put a cup of water on their radiators. Obviously, our Venta air humidifiers are now equipped with a high-tech operation, but they are still based on that traditional, yet ultra-efficient technique,’ says Hans.

Tradition hand in hand with ‘smart’ technology
Venta air humidifiers use an ancient, but efficient technique, yet they are equipped with hyper-modern and smart control functions. Think of the digital application Venta Air Connect which enables you to monitor the air humidity and switch the air humidifier on and off. ‘Our Original Series is still one of the best selling series in our range. These air humidifiers provide ideal humidity of 40% to 60% and also reduce the presence of pollen and household dust particles. Over the years, we have given these devices digital upgrades. Examples of that include LED lighting, an integrated hygrometer, or fully automatic controls,’ says Hans.

Venta also operates beyond the field of air humidification. This originally German producer also develops air quality meters, devices which give a complete picture of the state of an indoor climate and can send warning messages. Hans is clear about the importance of air quality meters: ‘For me, an air quality meter is a must in any home and in any office. Indeed, this device measures more than just the air quality and the temperature. Just think of the presence of volatile organic compounds (from the editor: VOC gases), formaldehyde, three sorts of fine dust, and CO². Our air quality meters are also Smart-Home devices which are compatible with the Venta Air Connect.’

Air humidifiers as a fully fledged part of an interior
It is palpably clear that air humidification and air purification are a current challenge for which producers such as Venta can offer an answer. How does Hans van Beurden expect the sector to develop in the next few years? ‘Obviously, I don’t have a crystal ball, but I’m expecting increasing diversity on the market, especially in the field of design. The evaporation technique such as that which we use at Venta has already had a proven and extremely efficient operation and currently requires little or few further major developments. And so, apart from the further digitalisation of our products, I expect mainly that the products will become aesthetically more attractive at the request of interior designers and the consumers themselves.’

One of Venta’s most recent launches has been Aerostyle, a range of low maintenance air humidifiers for rooms up to 90m² in size and fitted with a hygienic cold evaporation without air humidification mats or filters. ‘Aerostyle is the answer to the growing market demand for a sophisticated design. This black device is easy on the eye and is purchased by consumers to be put in a visible location. Air humidifiers are increasingly becoming devices which do not have to be concealed, but are increasingly a design element and a fully fledged part of the interior.’
